Banmira Specialist School (previously known as Verney Road School) is an educational campus in Shepparton with over 260 students. It’s a supportive environment for students with disabilities to learn, build life skills and reach their full potential.
Disabilities range from mild to severe, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Down Syndrome, and a variety of intellectual, physical and sensory challenges. With a dedicated sensory room, students at Banmira have a safe, engaging space to regulate their emotions, develop key skills, and learn in a way that suits their needs.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights in this sensory space…
Our Colour Controller Cube is a fun way to change up the colours in your sensory space. Whether it’s linked to one or multiple items in the space, the lighting automatically changes to match the colour on the top side of the cube- like rolling a smart dice.
Plus the cube is super tough and durable– great for burning off energy while learning colours and cause and affect. Check out the cube in action below.

Sometimes referred to as an ‘anxiety blanket’ the extra pressure and weight of a weighted blanket provides great proprioceptive input- the effect on the brain is like receiving a warm hug. A weighted blanket can:
- reduce stress and anxiety
- provide comfort and security
- improve focus and attention
- reduce hypersensitivity
- encourage self-regulation
With its super-soft textured surface, the weighted blanket makes Banmira’s sensory space extra cosy. Here it’s been added to our Sensory Rocker, creating a nice little spot to relax and watch the bubble tube and LED ceiling tiles work their magic.
An outlet for fidigity fingers- interactive wall panels offer a hands-on experience to stimulate the senses, support learning, and improve motor and cognitive skills.
Banmira school has a fantastic range of wall panels for their students to enjoy- multisensory experiences that can be enjoyed alone or as part of a group.
Crocodile Wall Panel
This panel is all about problem solving, exploring, and fine-tuning the motor skills. With multiple activities to challenge hand-eye coordination, students can twist, trace, slide and tap away at this friendly crocodile. At over 170cm long, there’s also plenty of space for several students to use the panel at the same time.
Colour Blending Panel
A visual way to learn colours, encourage interaction and show cause and effect- with adjustable volume, brightness and speed. Students can sit back and enjoy the colours or use the buttons to interact and change sounds.
Infinity Mirror Panel
It's easy to get lost in these lights! Swirling patterns and soothing sounds create a mesmerising multisensory experience. With interactive controls, teachers and students can switch up the patterns, change the colours, and adjust brightness, speed, and volume to either relax or energise the senses.
Rhapsody Wall Panel
A screen that listens when you talk, breathes when you breathe, and grooves when you play music- with interactive buttons and a microphone, this panel provides real-time feedback! Great for regulating breath, speech therapy, and interactive fun. Teachers can also add their own sounds and music to the included SD card, so this panel will always be fresh and exciting.
Active Colour Panel + Floor Pad
This panel lets you step and tap your way through eight interactive games, including Simon Says, Tune Maker, and Colour Match. The sounds range from musical instruments to silly noises and animal sounds – a mix of sound and colour for multisensory fun and learning.
Giant Mirror Panel
A fun way to explore colour, movement and expressions – students can strike a pose, make a silly face, or experiment with light and reflections. Shatterproof and scratch-resistant, this panel is tough enough to handle all the goofy poses, dance moves, and smudgy fingerprints!

Deep pressure input is fantastic for self-regulation- it helps calm the body and mind, and releases those feel-good “happy hormones”. Our Squeeze Machine also has adjustable pressure to create the perfect ‘hug’ as students move through the inflatable bumpers.
Especially for those with ADHD, Autism, or a Sensory Processing Disorder. physical touch can be uncomfortable and stressful. Consistent, soothing pressure from a Squeeze Machine helps improve spatial awareness and reduces stress and anxiety. without triggering sensory overload.
